Lady Flames Open Indoor Season at Boston and Vanderbilt

SHARON COLYEAR-DANVILLE SEASON OPENER RESULTS | COMMODORE WINTER CHALLENGE RESULTS

BOSTON/NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lee University women's track & field team opened their indoor season on Saturday at a pair of meets. Two Lady Flames traveled to Boston for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center, while the rest of the team traveled to Nashville for the Commodore Winter Challenge at Vanderbilt University's Multipurpose Facility.

In Boston, Estella Clemons and Aria Hawkins combined for two NCAA DII provisional marks. Aria Hawkins beat the standard of 9:50.34 in the 3000-meter run with a ninth-place time of 9:15.31. Clemons was 12th in the mile with a time of 4:51.03. The provisional mark is 4:54.48. Clemons also finished 12th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:30.84.

At the Vanderbilt meet, four Lee runners participated in the 60-meter dash. Liz Lannom was the first Lady Flames across the finish line at 7.68 seconds (12th). Maddox Mayfield was 21st (7.78), Lily Brown finished 36th (8.31) and Aubrey Anderson was 38th (8.62).

Lannom and Brown were joined by Jydia Faucette in the 300-meter dash. Lannom was 26th (41.00) with Brown (42.86) in 37th and Faucette (44.29) 47th. Mayfield stopped the clock of the 600-meter at 1:34.37 for ninth and Amelia Wedemeyer was 20th (1:46.24).

Six Lee women finished in the top 13 of the mile run. Abi Moore placed fifth with a time of 5:04.13 and Ava Sparks was seventh (5:13.85). Capucine Cureau was ninth (5:14.66) with Lucy Guthrie right behind in 10th (5:17.72), while Sawyer Simmons was 12th (5:30.25) and Kaylee Estridge (5:36.16) was 13th.

Kaylen Owen was Lee's top finisher in the 60-meter hurdles at 25th with a time of 9.46 seconds. Wedemeyer was 28th (9.55) and Brooke Jones (10.69) finished 34th.

Lannom and Jones were Lee's two representatives in the high jump. Lannom cleared 1.66 meters for fourth place and Jones finished 19th with a jump of 1.42 meters.

Faucette led three other Lady Flames in the long jump. She covered 5.27 meters for 13th place. Anderson was 22nd with a jump of 5.06 meters. Wedemeyer's mark of 5.01 meters put her in 23rd and Jones was 26th with a measurement of 4.78 meters.

Samara Brinks was third in the weight throw with a mark of 17.05 meters. Gracie Waite finished ninth with a throw of 15.12 meters. Waite also finished 10th in the shot put with a mark of 11.37 meters.

The Lady Flames are scheduled to return to action on January 16 and 17 at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
