BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Lee University men's track and field team finished in second place at the Gulf South Conference Indoor Championship on Friday afternoon. The Flames had 168 points in second place. The University of Alabama in Huntsville had 228 points in their first ever GSC Indoor title.
The University of Montevallo finished in third with Mississippi College in fourth. Trevecca Nazarene University came in fifth while Christian Brothers University was sixth. Since 2020, Lee has now finished in second place twice and won the title three times. The Flames had four individual titles at the championship.
Camden Williams took third in the weight throw for the Flames. He made a mark of 16.52 meters. Braxton Philpott was fourth and Carrington Tate was sixth.
Ryan Lovelace took home the title in the mile run as he ran it in 4:06.28. Owen Pearce took second with a time of 4:07.37. Parker Campbell was tenth and Stephen Clark was 17
th.
Cameron Stine won the penthalon with a score of 4697. He won the event by 85 points. Isaac Iosia came in sixth in the event.
Nokia Masengu was the winner in the 400-meter race. He ran it in in 48.28 to win by two-tenths of a second. Aiden Shaw also finished on the podium with a third-place finish at 48.58. Eli Cobble was 12
th and David Johnson was 18
th.
Jacob Salters was the top finisher in the triple jump coming in sixth. Cooper Giddens came in 11
th.
Iosia came in fifth in the 60-meter hurdles for the Flames with Cameron Stine coming in eighth.
Salters was also the top finisher in the high jump for Lee as he came in fifth clearing 1.90 meters. Stine was fifth and Hudson Hunt was 11
th in the high jump.
Evan Moore was third in the 800-meter race with a time of 1:53.82. Clark was fifth, Tal Old was tenth, Pearce came in 13
th, and Luke Gaddis was 14
th.
Shaw came in fourth in the 200-meter final with a time of 21.89 while Masengu was eighth.
In the final individual race of the meet, Edimo Nintereste came in second in the 3000-meter run by just half a second. He ran a 7:57.98 as UAH's Sam Wilhelm ran a 7:57.48. Ryan Lovelace came in third, Pierre Chauveau was fourth, and Aaron Himes was seventh.
In the 4x400 relay, the Flames took second place as Giddens, Cobble, Shaw, and Masengu ran the relay in 3:15.48.
The Flames will now see who will qualify for the national championship in Indianapolis in March and then look towards the outdoor season.
