CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Lee University women's golf team opened fall play by hosting the NCAA DII South Regional Preview at the Cleveland County Club on Monday and Tuesday. The Lady Flames placed fourth with a 54-hole total of 903.
Sixteen teams took part in the tournament and Wingate University (N.C.) took home the championship honors with an 877 total. Lynn University (Fla.) claimed second place with an 892 while Lander University (S.C.) finished two strokes ahead of Lee with a 901. Anderson University (S.C.) was fifth at 904 while the University of North Georgia slipped to sixth place with a 905 tally.
Lee's Emilia Nordstrom earned a spot on the All-Tournament team by finishing fifth with scores of 73-73-75 – 221. The tourney medalist honors went to Amely Bochaton (Wingate) with a 1-under par 215. She defeated teammate Jackie Gonzalez Howard by one stroke. Howard finished at even par 216. The tight player-leaderboard saw Olivia Roberts (Anderson) card a 217 and Emilia Koskinen (Lynn) tallied a 218. Nordstrom had to share the fifth place honors with Kajsa Lindqvist (Lander).
A pair of Lady Flames tied for 17th. Hannah Nall and Olivia Ireland finished with 225 totals. Justine Emond rounded out the scores that counted for the Lady Flames on Tuesday when she tied Lehane Louis-Dumond with a 1-under 71. Overall, Emond posted a 226 and tied for 21st.
Lee Coach Geandra Almeida entered eight players in the event. Louis-Dumond had a 233, Gabriella Diaz (234), Keira DeLand (238) and Kariann Campbell a 251.
The Lady Flames will turn around and head for McCormick, S.C. and take part in the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 22-23).
Coach Almeida's Thoughts:
"We struggled a little bit in the first round. We had a lot of nerves with two freshman in the lineup. We had a bad end of the first round and today in the third round, but I saw a lot of positives from it. We can take a lot away from this. Better to learn now then in May."
