Lady Flames Dropped Doubleheader to North Greenville

NEWBERRY, S.C.– The Lee University softball team dropped both games of the doubleheader to North Greenville University on Friday afternoon. Lee dropped game one 2-3 and game two 2-5. With the two losses, Lee fell to 4-6 on the season. The Lady Flames will stay in Newberry for two games against Newberry College on Saturday afternoon.
 
GAME 1
 
Lee scored first in the top of the second inning with a solo home run from Alyson Jarvi. It was the bottom of the third when NGU answered and took the lead. A single, error, and single led to the tying run. Then the go ahead run in the third came on a sacrifice fly.
 
The Trailblazers added another run on the fifth behind two walks and an error. Lee got one run back in the seventh when Jarvi scored on an Addi Emmerson sacrifice fly. Lee left one on third base when the game ended with a 3-2 final score.
 
Lee only managed two hits in the game with Jarvi getting two of them. Hailey Simco and Emmerson had the other two hits.
 
Layne Bailey took the loss. She threw three innings and gave up two runs on three hits with one strikeout. Ella Baker threw three innings did not give up a hit. She gave up an unearned run and struck out three.
 
GAME 2
 
Both teams scored a run in the first inning. After a Sadie Winsett walk and stolen base, Addi Lewis hit a double to bring her home. NGU used two singles and an error to score their first run.
 
North Greenville took the lead in the bottom of the second. They used four singles and a fielder's choice to score two more runs. The fourth run of the game for NGU was in the third. A single, double, and ground out plated a run.
 
In the sixth Jarvi hit her second home run of the day to make it 4-2. However, NGU added another run to their lead in the sixth with a double and another error. That proved to be the final run of the game as Lee could not score in the seventh and lost 5-2.
 
Jarvi had two of the five hits for Lee with Reese Haun, Emmerson, and Lewis each picking one up as well.
 
Kaylee Underwood picked up the loss as she threw five and one-third innings. She gave up five runs on ten hits. Baker threw two=thirds of an inning and had a strikeout.
