HARROGATE, Tenn. – The Lee University softball team could not end the losing streak on Wednesday afternoon as they dropped both games of the doubleheader to Lincoln Memorial University. The Lady Flames fell behind early in game one and could not catch up as they fell 2-8 in the first game and then lost the lead late in game two and fell 9-8. The Lady Flames fell to 5-14 overall and will host Auburn University Montgomery this weekend for their first home games of the season.
GAME 1
Lincoln Memorial jumped quickly out of the gates in the bottom of the first. They used five hits and two hits by pitches to score five runs. The Railsplitters added another run in the second inning. They doubled and then singled which set up a double steal to plate a run.
Two more runs for LMU came in the bottom of the third. Three more hits led to two runs and LMU led 8-0. The first Lee run came in the fifth. Tenslee Wilson led the inning off with a walk and then Madison Pinzon singled. Taryn Gibbs then loaded the bases with a single as well. Eva Armstrong had the RBI as she grounded out to second base and Wilson scored. The final run for Lee came in the seventh. Wilson walked to lead off the inning, then Katie Hastings singled and Pinzon was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Taryn Gibbs the brought Wilson home for the final run of the game.
Lee only had three hits in the contest with Wilson scoring both runs. LMU had 13 hits and six RBI.
Kaylee Underwood took the loss in the circle. She threw three innings and gave up ten hits with eight runs. She had four strike outs as well. Abigail Welbaum threw three innings in relief. She had three hits and two strikeouts.
GAME 2
The Lady Flames came out swinging in the second game and took an early lead. Hailey Simco hit a solo home in the second at bat in the contest. In the second inning, Hayden Gardner doubled the lead with a solo home run as well.
LMU scored in the bottom of the second. A double and then a single made it 2-1. Lee added two more runs in the top of the third with a two-run home run by Addi Lewis, she drove her and Sadie Winsett home to give Lee a 4-1 lead. The Railsplitters responded with three runs in the bottom of the third. They used two singles, double, and a triple to plate the three runs.
Lee scored three more runs in the fourth. A Pinzon single led it off. That was followed by an Eva Armstrong singe. A wild pitch then scored Pinzon. Simco then reached on an error and that allowed Armstrong to score. Winsett then drove Simco for the final run of the inning.
LMU retook the lead in the fifth. Three singles and an error allowed four runs to come home for Lincoln Memorial. They scored one more run in the sixth to lead it 9-7. Hayden Gardner hit her second home run of the game and Lee fell 9-8.
