Box Score CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Two big home runs in the fourth and fifth innings led the Auburn University Montgomery softball team paste the homestanding Lee. Lee had a home run of their own, but it wasn't enough as AUM won 9-5. The Lady Flames dropped their ninth straight contest, and they fell to 5-15 overall and 0-4 in Gulf South Conference action. The two teams will play a double header on Saturday, February 28 at 1 PM.
Lee got on the board in the bottom of the first. Sadie Winsett walked and then Addi Lewis doubled to put two in scoring position. Alyson Jarvi then brought them both home with a double to left center field.
AUM tied the game in the top of the third. Three hits that were capped off by an Olivia Watkins double which tied the game at 2-2. Lee retook the game in the bottom of the third. Lewis singled, then Hayden Gardner and Alyson Jarvi walked to load the bases. After an AUM pitching change, Madison Pinzon singled to score Gardner to lead 3-2.
AUM retook the lead in the fifth. A walk and an error got two on base before Olivia Watkins hit a three-run home run to make it a 5-3 game. The Warhawks broke the game open in the sixth. They hit three straight singles to plate a run. Then Rebecca Komers hit a three-run home run to make it 9-3.
The Lady Flames scored two more run in the bottom of the sixth. Eva Armstrong doubled and then Winsett hit a two-run blast into right field to give Lee their fourth and fifth runs. That was all could muster and fell 9-5.
Watkins had five RBI in the win while Chloe Baynes and Rebecca Komers each had three runs. Chelisa Newsome started the game and gave up three runs in three hits and five walks. Alivia Messick earned her second win of the season going four and two-thirds innings and giving up two runs on six hits. Lee did not have a strikeout in the loss.
Armstrong, Pinzon, and Lewis each had two hits. Jarvi and Winsett each had two RBI. Lee had nine hits to AUM's 11. Kaylee Underwood took the loos for Lee in the circle. She threw four and one-third innings and gave up five runs on six hits and had three strikeouts. In relief, Abigail Welbaum threw two and two-thirds innings and gave up four runs on five hits.
