CLEVELAND, Tenn. – For the first time since the 2023 season, the Lee University softball team earned a sweep of a Gulf South Conference opponent. The Lady Flames won 8-3 and 5-2 on Saturday to earn the sweep. After the Lady Flames won 10-6 yesterday, Lee improved their record to 13-22 overall and 6-9 in GSC action. The last time Lee swept was April 20-21 in 2023 when they swept Delta State University.
GAME 1
CBU go on the board first using two singles and a double steal to score a run. Lee answered and took the lead for good in the bottom of the second. With two outs, Lee started a rally. Madison Pinzon was hit by a pitch and Nat Toups was walked. Hailey Simco drove them both home with a double. Eva Armstrong then reached safely on an error which allowed Simco to score. Sadie Winsett then hit a home run to make it 5-1
Lee added a run in the third. Addi Lewis singled to lead off the frame. That was followed by Katie Hastings being hit by a pitch. Pinzon got on by a fielder's choice and then she and Lewis completed a double steal to give Lee the 6-1 lead.
CBU got a run back in the fourth with a hit by a pitch and a double. Simco hit a solo home run for Lee in the fourth. CBU scored a run in the fifth on a solo home run by Dakota Davis. The final run for Lee came on a Pinzon sacrifice fly to score Alyson Jarvi.
Winsett got the win in the circle. She threw five innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Kaylee Underwood threw two innings in relief and did not give up a hit.
Simco had three RBI while Winsett had two. Simco was the only player to have two hits.
GAME 2
The Lady Flames scored the only runs they would need in the first inning. Armstrong singled and then Simco reached on an error. Gardner walked to load the bases next. Addi Lewis doubled to bring home two run and then Pinzon brought the final run on a ground out.
Lee added a run in the second. Winsett reached on an error and Nat Toups took advantage to score. CBU scored their two runs on three hits in the top of the third. The final run for Lee came in the fifth when Lewis drove Winsett home.
CBU out hit Lee 8-6 in the contest. Armstrong had two hits while Lewis had three RBI.
Layne Bailey started the game and threw three and one-third innings giving up six hits on two runs with one strikeout. Ella Baker earned the win going three and two-third innings. She gave up two hits and had three strikeouts.
