MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lee University softball team dropped the opening game of the series to the University of Montevallo 6-0 on Friday evening. Montevallo scored one run in the first and five runs in the third inning to win the game. Lee fell to 13-23 overall and 6-10 in the Gulf South Conference. The two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 2 PM EST on Saturday.
Montevallo's run in the first came after a single and a couple of stolen bases. Taylor Rogers singled to lead the frame off and then she stole second and third. Ariana Pinder walked and then the Flacons converted the double steal to score Rogers.
The Falcons three runs in the third came on three hits and an error. It was capped off by a Bentlee Stiner three-run home run.
Lee only had two base runners in the game and they were both Hayden Gardner. She was walked and had the only hit for Lee.
Taylor Lloyd threw all seven innings for Montevallo. She gave up one hit and had four strikeouts. Layne Bailey started the game for Lee and took the loss. She threw five and one-third innings. She gave up six runs with only two earned on seven hits. Ella Baker threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.
