Lady Flames Fall to Mount Olive on Senior Day

CLEVELAND, Tenn. –The Lee University lacrosse fell to the University of Mount Olive 21-9 on senior day at the Ray Conn Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. Before the game, the Lady Flames celebrated six seniors: Jess Ryan, Kylee Kangas, Emma Bailey, Noelle Harrington, Stella Starosicak, and Sydney Mayo. With the loss Lee fell to 5-11 and will have one more game in the regular season. On Saturday, April 18, the Lady Flames will take on the University of Montevallo. The winner will be the fourth seed in the Gulf South Conference championship while the loser's season will come to an end.

Lee struck first as Taylor McGover found Kamille Kremkau for the first goal two and half minutes into the start of the contest. After UMO tied it and then took the lead, Lily Tomczik tied it at 2-2 with a free position shot. UMO then rattled off four straight goals to lead 6-2 after 15 minutes.

The Lady Flames bounced back a little bit in the second quarter with goals from Tomczik and McGovern, but Mount Olive still led 9-4 at halftime. Kremkau, Tomczik, and Lanie Carroll each scored quickly in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 11-7. However, it was all UMO the rest of the way. They outscored Lee 11-2 over the last 20 minutes of the game to earn the win.

UMO outshot Lee 40-27. Even though Lee won the draw control 20-12 they could not take advantage because of 23 turnovers.

Tomczik ended the day with four goals to lead the Lady Flames.

Lee had 12 saves in the contest with Savannah Weisman making eight and Mayo making four.

Coach Megan Smith's Thoughts:

"This senior class has been amazing. They have all made an impact on this program. This was my first full senior class so very bittersweet today. We know what is ahead and need to have the mentality of all or nothing. Today was a good build up. We did a lot of good things we just need to continue to improve on what we did well."
