Lee , West Florida Battle for GSC Men's Golf Championship

DICKSON, Tenn. – It will be a showdown between No. 1-ranked West Florida and No. 2-ranked Lee in the Gulf South Men's Golf Championship being staged at the Greystone Golf Course. The Flames fired an 8-under par 280 on Tuesday and moved to 9-under 567 after 36 holes. West Florida tallied a 7-under 281 for a two-day total of 11-under 565 and continues to hold a two-stroke advantage over Lee heading into the final 18 on Wednesday.

Mississippi College posted an even-par 288 and holds down third (3-under 573). Union was impressive with a 5-under 283 and climbed to fourth (2-under 574) while Trevecca had a 2-under 286 and Valdosta State slipped to 5-over 293, both are tied for fifth with a 7-over 583.

Lee's Drew Zielinski fired the best individual score of the day, 5-under 67 and his 6-under 138 leaves him three strokes behind the tournament leader. Joao Iglesias (Mississippi College) posted a 3-under 69 (9-under 135) and continues to lead in the medalist competition. Todd McKie (Mississippi College) had a 2-under 70 (4-under 140) and is third while Lane Carr (Union) tallied a 3-under 69 (3-under 141) and stands in fourth.

Six players are tied for fifth place at 2-under par 142 including Lee's Billy Boroughs who shot a 4-under 68 and Bennett McNabb, who had a 2-under 70. Cooper Tendick (West Florida) Even 72, TJ Thompson (West Florida) Even 72, Alexander Nilehn (Valdosta) 2-under 70, and Maxwell Page (West Florida) 2-under 70.

Lee's George Cordall finished with a 3-over 75 (146) and is tied for 18th while Tucker Wick came in with a 7-over 79 (152) and is tied for 31st. Caleb Tipton entered as an extra player is tied for 48th.

Coach Evan Spence's Thoughts:

"We are in a great spot. At the beginning of the week you want to be in the mix with a shot for a title on the final day. We took advantage of a lot of the easy holes and hit a lot of birdies. A few small stumbles but that is golf. Looking forward to competing tomorrow."
