Lady Flames Drop Two to UWF

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Lee University softball team lost two games of a doubleheader to the University of West Florida on Friday. Lee lost 6-2 and then 5-0 to fall to 13-28 on the season and 6-15 in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Flames will return home next weekend to host Valdosta State University.
 
GAME 1
 
The Lady Flames got on the board first with a solo home run of the season by Alyson Jarvi. It was the ninth home runs on the season for Jarvi. The Argos scored four of their six runs in the fourth. Five singles, an error, and a hit by a pitch plated the five runs.
 
The final two UWF runs came in the fifth from a single, double, and a triple. The Lady Flames scored one more run in the top of the seventh. Hayden Gardner walked to lead off the inning. Kaylee Wilson then pinch ran for Gardner and stole second base. After a Katie Hastings single. Hope Barnett grounded out to score Wilson.
 
Lee only had three this in the game with Hailey Simco, Jarvi and Hastings collecting them.
 
Sadie Winsett started in the circle and took the loss. She gave up five hits and four runs with one strikeout. Kaylee Underwood threw three innings and gave up two runs on four hits.
 
GAME 2
 
Lee had six hits in the contest but could not score a run. Simco had a double in the first but was left on base. UWF scored a run with two singles and a sacrifice bunt. Gardner and Hastings each had hits in the second but could not score.
 
The Argos had two runs in the third behind a Lee error and a single and a double. In the fifth Madison Pinzon and Hastings each had a hit for Lee but were left stranded. The final two runs for UWF came in the fifth when Hannah Harper hit a two-run home run.
 
Gardner and Hastings each had two hits while Simco and Pinzon had the others.
 
Layne Bailey was the starting pitcher. She threw five innings and gave up six hits and five runs with only three being earned. She also had one strikeout. Ella Baker threw one inning and did not allow a base runner in nine pitches.
