Flames Baseball With Five on First Team All-GSC

Two Flames Are On the Second Team and One on the Gold Glove Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After finishing second in the regular season in the Gulf South Conference, the Lee University baseball team had five members on the First Team All-GSC, two on the Second Team All-GSC, and one member on the Gold Glove team. The Flames had the most players in the league on the First Team and were tied for most players on the first and second team combined. 
 
Evan Bloomer, Luke Collier, Landon Franklin, Isaiah French, and Cody Turner are first team honorees. Braden Gabel and Gage are on the second team, and JJ Williams is on the  gold glove team as a  centerfielder.
 
Head Coach Mark Brew is proud of what his players have accomplished. "I'm proud of these guys and the individual seasons they've put together. The strength of our team this year has been our offense and our starting pitching, and I think that's reflected in the players selected to the GSC All-Conference Team. It's a highly competitive league, and to be recognized by it speaks volumes about the kind of seasons these men have had."
 
Evan Bloomer has had a fantastic season pitching for Lee. He has a 3.70 ERA on the season which is eighth best in the GSC. He has thrown the second most innings this year in the GSC at 83.2. He is tied for the most wins in the GSC with eight. He has 74 strikeouts on the season which is fifth most and thrown the second fewest walks in the GSC with 14.
 
Luke Collier is having a fantastic season. He is hitting the third best average in the GSC and is in the top five in slugging. He is tops in the GSC in runs (63), hits (79), RBI (63), and triples (7). As the everyday shortstop he is fielding is over .900 on the season. He has tied the all-time GSC career triples record. He has 79 hits on the season and has 15 stolen bases.
 
Landon Franklin has had a solid first year at Lee. He is just outside the top ten in the GSC in batting average. He is fifth in runs scored with 49, and third in hits with 65. As the everyday second baseman, he has a .950+ fielding percentage.
 
Isaiah French is having another great season as a catcher. He is fourth in the GSC in RBI with 50 and in the top ten in slugging at .600. He has double digit home runs at 12 and is third best in the GSC. He is fifth in runs scored at 49 and fourth in RBI with 50. He has double digit steals as well with 14. He is fielding at .981 on the year and has thrown multiple base steals out.
 
Cody Turner has been a strong in his first season at Lee. A true utility player, he has played first base, outfield, designated hitter, and has pitched. He is in the top six in the GSC in slugging eighth in batting average. He is third in the GSC in RBI with 54. He is hitting over .368 with 60 hits. He has over 30 runs scored and eleven home runs. As a pitcher for Lee he has double digit appearance and thrown over 27 innings. He has 20 strikeouts. has two wins, and a 3.90 era.
 
Braden Gabel is hitting at .372 on the season which is sixth best in the GSC. He has 32 runs and 18 RBI on the year. He has double digit stolen bases as well with 17. That is fourth best in the GSC. He has only 12 strikeouts in 113 at bats.
 
Gage Shaver has been a great starter for the Flames. He is in the top nine in the GSC in ERA at 3.99. Opponents are only averaging around .237 against him which is top three in the GSC. He is in the top ten in strikeouts in the GSC with 67 including fifth most looking at 23. He has only allowed around 60 hits on the season.
 
JJ Williams once again has been a solid centerfielder for Lee. He is hitting .286 on the year and has 50 hits. He is in third in the GSC in doubles with 16. He has 36 runs and 33 RBI on the year. Out centerfield he has had 99 chance and 99 putouts on the season..
 
Zach Stokes of the University of West Florida is the Player of the Year. Adrian Byrd of Delta State University is the Pitcher of the Year. Blake Westry of the University of West Alabama is the Freshman of the Year and Eric Dubose of UWA is the Coach of the Year.
