Flames Play Waiting Game as GSC Tourney Opens

OXFORD, Ala. - The 2026 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championship is co-hosted by the City of Oxford with games played at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. The tournament will begin with two single-elimination games played on May 1. The two advancing teams will then compete in a six-team double elimination tournament held May 2-5.

The action will officially begin at 12 noon (EST) when No. 5 Delta State and No. 8 Alabama in Huntsville battle. The final game on the opening card finds No. 6 Trevecca facing No.7 Montevallo at 2:30 p.m. (EST).

Coach Mark Brew and his No.2 Flames (22-11) will see their first action on Saturday at 7 p.m. (EST) against the highest remaining team in the field of four teams that played in the Friday games. No.3 Mississippi College (21-12) and No. 4 West Florida (21-12 -tie breaker) will open Saturday's action at noon (EST) while No.1 West Alabama (23-10) will take the field on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 (EST) against the lowest seed remaining after Friday's two games.

"This year's GSC tournament is one of the deepest I have seen in my time at Lee," stressed Coach Brew whose team won 13 of their last 15 regular season games. "There are so many quality teams that have a chance to win it all, and it will be a tough week down in Oxford.

"I like the way our team has been playing over the last month," the coach continued. "Our offense has been steadily producing runs (batting .336, 62 HR) and our pitching has been much better during that time (4 under 4.00 ERA). Our defense shows signs of being top-level (.963 FLD %) the way we thought it could be and I'm hoping we continue to trend that way this week.  t will be an exciting week of baseball. "
