It didn't take long for freshman Angie Hughes to make her presence felt on the Lee softball team. Hughes guided the Lady Flames to a 4-0 week to start the year and was dominate in the circle pitching in three of the four contests.

The native of Blairsville, Ga. pitched a complete game shutout over Tennessee Wesleyan College on Thursday afternoon to record her first collegiate victory. Hughes gave up just one hit and struck out nine in her 7 innings of work as Lee defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-0.

Hughes would come back the very next day and work both games against Bryan College. In game one she started in the circle and pitched 4 innings giving up just two hits while striking out nine to move to 2-0 on the year. In game two Hughes worked the fifth and final inning and struck out the side to preserve the 1-0 victory and series sweep for the Lady Flames.  

All totaled Hughes worked a total of 15 innings, giving up just 3 unearned runs while striking out 20 batters. The freshman is 2-0 with a save on the year.

The Lady Flames will play their home opener on Saturday afternoon against Asbury College (Ky.). First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Butler Field.
