Lee senior first baseman Ben Holland (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) was named the Gulf South Conference (GSC) Baseball Player of the Week on Tuesday by the conference office.
 
Over four games last week, Holland powered Lee, going 8-for-16 with six-total RBI, all while hitting a double in every game. His top performance was a 4-for-5 effort in the series finale with Shorter, in which he also hit two homeruns, including a game-winning round-tripper in the 10th inning.
 
Holland is currently hitting .458. He leads all NCAA Division II with 13 homers, He also has 15 doubles and has driven in 37 runs.
 
"Ben has probably been as equally deserving of this award in just about any week this season," stated Lee head coach Mark Brew. "He is having an amazing year and is as locked in as any hitter I have ever seen.  It's a great accomplishment to be seen as an elite player in this league."
 
Ben and the Flames will face old TranSouth Conference rival Trevecca Nazarene this evening (Tuesday), 6 p.m., at Olympic. The Trojans will bring an overall record of 8-11 into the nine-inning contest. The Flames are 15-12 and have won six of their last seven games.
 
"Trevecca always has a quality team," noted Brew. "They haven't played their best yet in 2016, but they have a really good team. 
 
"Coach Schmalz always prepares them well and we will need to play well tonight to get the win.  We have lots of momentum right now and we need to stay aggressive and competitive to keep it rolling."
 
The Flames will moved back into GSC play on Friday (doubleheader) and Saturday in a rugged road test against Valdosta State University.
