BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Lee softball standout Abby McKinney has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week after pitching and hitting the Lady Flames to a 5-1 mark last week.

The Ringgold, Ga. native was a perfect 3-0 in the circle with a 2.92 ERA. McKinney struck out 12 and walked just two batters in 12 innings of work. She is now 5-1 on the season for the Lady Flames.

At the dish the powerful lefty was equally impressive. McKinney hit .619 and drove in 10 runs. She is currently leading the team with a sizzling .600 average and 15 RBI.

McKinney and the Lady Flames will put their 9-3 record on the line as they open up GSC play on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Alabama Huntsville.
