Led senior Harold Smith the Lee University men's cross country team placed four runners in the top 26 on its way to winning its second consecutive NCAA Division II South Region Championship Saturday morning at the Holloway Park & Nature Reserve. The Flames earned an automatic berth to the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships that will be held at the Angel Mounds State Park in Evansville, Ind., on Nov. 18. It will be the program's third trip to nationals in as many years.

The Flames posted 82 points, 10 points ahead of runner-up Alabama Huntsville. Saint Leo University finished third (141) to claim the final automatic bid from the South Region.

Smith was the first Lee runner to complete the 10K course. Smith finished fifth overall with a time of 33:10.26. The Cleveland native was named to the All-Region team for the third straight season.
