BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Lee women's basketball guard Maddie Long has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday.

Long led the Lady Flames with 14 points in Thursday's 60-51 win over West Florida from Walker Arena. Long made 5-for-6 from the field on her way to a team-leading 14 points. The McEwen, Tenn. native added four rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot.

"Maddie stepped up big for us tonight and we need her to play like that off the bench in order to be at our best," noted head coach Marty Rowe after Thursday's victory.

The athletic guard is the first Lee women's player to receive the GSC Weekly honor for the 2017-18 season.

Long and the Lady Flames have now won three straight games and are 12-3 overall and 5-2 in the GSC. Lee travels to West Alabama on Wednesday before hosting rival Shorter Saturday evening at Walker Arena at 5 p.m.
