BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Lee women's basketball forward Carrie Cheeks has been named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week after leading the Lady Flames to a road victory over Shorter University on Thursday to wrap up the regular season.

Cheeks tied a career-high with 27 points and was a near perfect 12 of 14 from the field. The 6-foot-3 forward hauled in nine rebounds and rejected four shots as the Lady Flames buried the Hawks, 84-51 to improve to 22-6 and 15-5 in the GSC.

The Ranger, Ga. native is averaging 11.2 points per game in just 22 minutes per game and leads the team with 199 rebounds (7.1 per game).

Cheeks and the Lady Flames claimed the fourth-seed in the GSC Tournament and will host fifth-seed West Georgia in the quarterfinal round Tuesday at 6 p.m. Cheeks has led Lee to a GSC Tournament appearance in each of the last two seasons. The Lady Flames are 2-0 all-time in GSC quarterfinal games.
