BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Lee baseball senior Jordan Howard has been recognized as the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday.

Howard hit .667 on the week as he went 8 for 12 with five RBI and six runs scored. The native of Stockbridge, Ga. posted a .733 on-base percentage and slugged 1.083.

Over the weekend the outfielder delivered three doubles and a triple to lead the Flames to a road GSC sweep at Valdosta State.

“Jordan had a huge weekend for us at the plate and was a catalyst for our offense.  He has been swinging the bat really well lately and it showed this weekend.  It’s nice recognition for his performance,” said head coach Mark Brew.

The Flames have now won 8 of 9 GSC games and are 16-7 in their last 23 contests. The recent resurgence has helped Lee climb into the top 10 in the latest National College Baseball Writers of America (NCBWA) poll at No. 10.

“It’s been an uphill battle to get into the region top 10.  We have been playing well over the last three weeks and have made up some ground in the conference standings with an 8-1 run,” noted Brew. “It’s exciting for the team to get some recognition for how they are playing and we will look to sustain our momentum with a tough week with Belmont Abby and West Florida.”

The Flames are 19-15 overall and are currently tied for third at 12-6 in the conference standings.

Lee will be on the road on Wednesday for a doubleheader with the Belmont Abby, ranked No. 2 in the latest NCBWA poll before hosting No. 20 West Florida for a big GSC series this weekend.
