BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After a 4-0 week and helping the Lee men's tennis team clinch a spot in the GSC Tournament for the third straight season Bruno Medeiros has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week the league office announced on Wednesday.
Last Tuesday Medeiros led the Flames to a 6-3 victory at Shorter winning both at No. 3 doubles 8-0 with Jordan Knott and at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-3.
On Sunday the Porto, Portugal native helped guide the Flames to a comeback victory over Mississippi College, 5-4. Mederios and Knott teamed up again at No. 3 doubles to win, 8-3 and secure the lone doubles win of the match for Lee. In singles Medeiros was victory in straight sets for the second straight match winning, 6-3, 6-3.
"Bruno stepped it up for his team last week," noted head coach Patric Hynes. "He has already improved a lot this year and we look forward to seeing what's ahead for him."
Medeiros and the Flames will wrap up regular season play this week as they host Montevallo today at 2 p.m. and Auburn Montgomery Friday at 4:30 p.m. before setting their sights on the GSC Tournament in Montgomery, Ala. on April 19.
