BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After a hat trick and four total goals last week senior Mia Hollingsworth has been named the Gulf South Conference Player of the Week the league office announced on Tuesday.
Hollingsworth, a native of Libertyville, Ill., started the week with a bang as she notched her first career hat trick, scoring three first half goals in a 3-1 victory over Trevecca on Monday.
“I just determined this year that I’m going to use my speed and challenge every team we play,” said Hollingsworth. “To be able to accomplish this feat in front of my family and friends and this incredible home crowd is such a blessing from God.”
Hollingsworth would go on to add a goal in Lee’s hard-fought 3-2 overtime loss to Carson-Newman on Saturday. The two clubs staged an epic battle that seemed more like a playoff showdown than an early season contest.
“Mia has had a great start to the season and I think this honor shows how important she has been for the team this past week,” said head coach Chris Hennessey.
Hollingsworth and the Lady Flames (2-1-1) will host Emmanuel College on Wednesday in their final non-conference match of the season before heading into GSC play with a trip to rival Shorter University on Sunday afternoon.
