Very few college volleyball coaches can match the winning marks posted by Andrea Hudson, her staff and Lady Flames over the past 22 years. Lee zipped past visiting Faulkner University 3-0 on Tuesday evening and for the 21st consecutive year reached 20 or more wins.
Hudson is in her 22nd year of directing the Lee program and in her first campaign her team was 19-18. Lee, ranked 5th in the latest NAIA poll, has posted 40 or more victories four times and 30 or more 11 times. Currently the Lady Flames are 20-7 and 11-1 in Southern States Athletic Conference play.
Tuesday's match took only 58 minutes. Lee took the first set 25-12 and followed up with 25-9 and 25-10 decisions. Coach Hudson took the opportunity to allow the majority of her club plenty of playing time. Still the Lady Flames finished with an outstanding .524 hitting percentage and held the Eagles to only a .136 mark.
Irene Ojukwu was at the top of her game. She had 16 kills and a sizzling .583 attack percentage. Paul Martins was not far behind. She finished with 12 slams (.545 hitting mark), two digs and a pair of blocks. Camil Martinez went to the net for five kills and a remarkable .714 hitting mark. She also had 21 assists and five digs.
Freshman Nicole Sumida made it look easy with six kills (.545 attack percentage), seven digs and a team-leading three blocks. Patty Orozco was 4-for-4, four kills in four attempts.
The Lady Flames will find the competition much tougher this weekend. They will travel to Georgetown, Ky. and be pitted ranked clubs like (No. 11) Georgetown, Taylor University, Point Park (receiving votes) and (No. 9) Indiana Wesleyan in an event called the Boneyard Brawl.
