Volleyball Wins 5-Set Battle Over Lindsey Wilson

Lady Flames Remain Unbeaten In Pool Play

Coach Kevin Hudson prepares to instruct the Lady Flames in Wednesday's victory over Lindsey Wilson
SIOUX CITY, Iowa- The Lee University volleyball team remained unbeaten in pool play surviving a tough five-set battle with Lindsey Wilson College Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Flames looked to be in command taking the first set 25-12 over the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson came firing back however, taking the next two sets and looking as if they were going to get some revenge after losing in straight sets to the Lady Flames earlier in the year.

Lee would bounce back and take set four 25-14, before closing things out in the fifth and final set, 15-11.

The victory puts Lee at 2-0 in pool play and assures them of advancing to the single elimination bracket portion of the NAIA Volleyball National Championship Tournament.

Lee now sits at 30-9 overall. The loss drops Lindsey Wilson to 29-15.

The offensive attack for the Lady Flames was led by Paula Martins and Irene Ojukwu. Martins delivered 17 kills and a .464 attack percentage. Ojukwu slammed home 16 kills and registered 11 digs for the double-double. Freshman Nicole Sumida added 14 kills of her own to go along with six digs.

Camil Martinez set the table for many of those kills with 50 assists.  Libby Peigen chipped in 16 digs to help round out the hard-fought victory for the Lady Flames.

Sierra Wilkerson was the lone Blue Raider with double- figure kills, tallying 10. Andrea Taylor had 32 assists and Kristi Hager managed 16 digs for the Kentucky club.

Lee will play there final match in pool play against fourth-ranked Biola (Calif.) on Thursday at 4:15 p.m. Both teams come into the match 2-0 in pool play after Biola defeated Missouri Baptist earlier in the day.
