Despite registering 17 shots the Flames can't find the net in 2-0 loss to Mobile

Mobile struck first on a goal by Gunnar Steindorsson from well outside the box and added a late insurance goal to top the Flames 2-0 at the Lee Soccer Field.

Mobile sealed the victory in the 83rd minute, on a goal by Stephen Okai off a cross from Gaetan Massiah.

The Flames held the advantage in shots but could never cash in. The Flames totaled 17 shots, six of which were on goal. The Rams had eight shots, five were on frame. The Flames managed six corner kicks while the Rams registered two.

Coach Paul Furey spoke about his team’s play, “We really did a lot of things very well tonight that contributed to us outshooting them 17-6.  We just didn’t finish and that was the difference."

“They got two shots to our 13 in the first half and they scored, it’s disheartening that we play good enough to win but can’t get the result, but we can build on this and get ready for our next games in Mississippi.” Furey added.

Lee keeper Tom Halsall had three saves while allowing the two goals. Mobile’s keeper, Elijah Gibson, had six saves in posting the shutout.

With the loss the Flames fall to 3-4-1 on the year and 0-2 in conference play. The win sends Mobile to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the SSAC.

The Flames will be back in action next weekend. Friday they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to matchup with William Carey University. Saturday they will stay on the road and play the No. 4 Blazers of Belhaven.
