Lady Flames Down USciences And Sioux Falls

Face St. Cloud State and Alderson Broaddus On Wednesday

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Lee University women's tennis teams collected two wins on Monday. The Lady Flames defeated University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, 8-1, in the morning and were 7-2 victors over the University of Sioux Falls later in the evening.

Lee will have Tuesday off before getting back on the courts Wednesday. The  Lady Flames will challenge St. Cloud State University in Winter Haven, Fla., at noon before playing a second match in Kissimmee, Fla., against Alderson Broaddus University at 7 p.m. EST.

 
Lady Flames 7, Sioux Falls 2
Lee (10-5) won 2-of-3 doubles matches and 5-of-6 singles matches to win its third-straight match and end the Cougars' six-match win streak.

Morgan Friedlander and Joanna Grzegrzolka defeated Stacey Beard and Abby Seigenthaler, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles. Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto beat Alison Kauss and Emily Erickson by the same score.

Sioux Falls (8-3) picked up a team point at No. 2 doubles. Joey Wenborg and Kara Bunkers beat Maclain Yowarsky and Laura Beth Hardesty, 8-3.

Grzegrzolka dropped just one game against Erickson at No. 3 singles and Tondi did the same at the No. 1 spot. Friedlander defeated Cortney McCans 6-2 and 6-4 to clinch the team victory.

Krista Good beat Kylie Simons 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5 singles. Garcia-Nieto needed a tie-breaker to win the first set 7-6, but breezed through the second set with a 6-0 mark.

Sioux Falls picked up a second point with a win at No. 4 singles. Beard held off Yowarsky for the 6-4, 6-2 win.

 
Lady Flames 8, USciences 1
Lee won all three doubles matches and the first four singles matches to earn the win over the Devils (4-9).

Friedlander and Grzegrzolka blanked Sara Skoritowski and Shagun Dhanju. Tondi and Garcia-Nieto did the same to Victoria Quang and Elkanah Linder. Yowarski and Hardesty were 8-2 winners over Abbygail Gamarnik and Jillyan Serrano.

Tondi dropped one game to Quang and Good lost just two games to Serrano for the fifth team point. Friedlander was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Skoritowski and Hardesty kept Dhanju scoreless.

USciences avoided the shutout with Linder's 6-4, 6-4 win over Yowarsky. Garcia-Nieto fought off Gamarnik with a 7-4 tie-breaker to win the first set 7-6 and finished the match with a 6-0 score in set two.
