The Lee University women's tennis team ended a two-match losing streak with a 6-3 win over Georgetown College Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at the DeVos Tennis Center. Lee (15-9) had two seniors (Morgan Friedlander and Maclain Yowarsky) playing in their final home match.
Yowarsky teamed with Laura Beth Hardesty to outlast Kaelin Roberts and Amanda Moore for the 9-7 win at No. 2 doubles. Friedlander and Joanna Grzegrzolka beat Alyssa Kennedy and Abigail Kennedy to give the Lady Flames a 2-0 lead. Shae Henry and Kelly Swanson gave Georgetown (14-7) its first point with an 8-6 defeat of Francesca Tondi and Marta Garcia-Nieto.
Tondi dropped just one game to Henry to win their No. 1 singles match. Grzegrzolka won her opening set 6-4 then blanked Moore in the second set. Krista Good recorded the same scores in her match with Emily Novak.
Roberts earned a tough two-set win over Garcia-Nieto at No. 3 singles. Roberts needed a 7-4 mark in the first-set tie-breaker and held on for a 7-5 margin in set No. 2. Georgetown picked up its third point with Swanson's win over Yowarsky at the No. 5 spot. Swanson used a 7-5 tie-breaker to win the opening set 7-6, then carried the momentum to a 6-0 second set.
Friedlander supplied the final team score with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Alyssa Kennedy at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Flames travel to Huntsville, Ala., on Sunday to face Mississippi College at 1 p.m. EDT in their regular season finale.
