Audrey Smith set a new Lee record and just missed the provisional qualifying mark in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Justin Brooks met an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and joined Audrey Smith in re-writing the Lee University Track & Field record books Wednesday at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.

Brooks finished third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.55. He improved upon the mark of 48.18 he posted at the GSC Championships and crossed the finish line under the 47.94 standard.

Smith placed first in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Her time of 11:05.36 was just shy of meeting the provisional qualifying time of 11:05.00, but was quick enough to beat her own Lee record of 11:24.23.

Brooks joined his brother Justin in the 200 meter dash. Josiah was eighth at 21.37 and Justin stopped the clock at 21.74 (16th). Brandon Raleigh finished ninth (4:01.73) in the 1500 meter run.

Adrian Martin garnered two top-three finishes. The junior placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.74. The winner was the current holder of the No. 1 time in NCAA DII, Nikia Squire from Queens (N.C.). Martin also finished third in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 24.11. Neither time improved her NCAA DII qualifying times from the GSC Championships.

The Flames had five athletes in the 800 meter run. Harold Smith finished first (1:52.35). Emmanuel Kipchumba gave Lee a second runner in the top 10 with a time of 1:55.35. Adam Gullette was 16th (1:59.91), Raleigh was 20th (2:01.73) and Terris Elliott finished 29th (2:09.64).

The Lee squads will travel to Greensboro, N.C., on May 15 to participate in the 2016 Aggie Last Chance hosted by North Carolina A&T to take their last shot at qualifying for the NCAA DII Championships.
