Lady Flames Trip To Dominican Republic: Day 6

by Micah Black, Taylor Boggess and Lexi Shadowen

Hey thanks for coming back y'all.

Today we woke up and went to team breakfast and then got all dressed up and went to church at Iglesia Bautista Christiana. If we do say so ourselves we were "nina hermosas."

This church was very different than the ones we are used to because the culture believes that men can wear shorts and t-shirts yet women are held to a much more higher and modest standard.

As previously mentioned most things in the DR run on Island time so church started about 30 minutes late, which was really right on time. We started out by singing a couple of worship songs that were in Spanish, even though we did not know what they were saying we were still able to worship by repeating the chorus with them.

The preacher spoke to us in English, but there was a translator with him repeating everything in Spanish; thank the Lord for that translator. The pastor talked to us about roots and how it is our job as Christian to produce the right fruit from the roots in which God plants us. It was muy muy caliente but sharing this experience with our teammates is something we will never forget.

After a wonderful church service we headed to the SCORE house for lunch where we ate hamburgers and fries which was a pleasant surprise. It is interesting to see the variety of foods every day because you never know what you are going to get. After lunch we loaded up on the bus and headed back to the hotel to prepare for a much needed beach day.

Our beach day included horse riding on the shore, walking a mile into the ocean yet still only being ankle deep, getting to hold sea urchins, many, many, many photoshoots, and vendors coming from every direction to sell us glasses, bracelets, and even paintings.

We walked down to a dock on the beach and found a spot deep enough to swim. The weather was great, not too hot, and not too cold. A couple hours into our beach stay dark clouds started to form and not too far after a light sprinkle turned into a heavy rain. We then loaded the bus and headed back to the hotel for a couple hours before dinner.

Once we got to the hotel we all went out separate ways. Some took naps, some played games, some journaled, and others did homework. It was nice to have a couple of hours to chill with everyone before we had to get ready to go to dinner.

At dinner we were served mashed potatoes, broccoli, chicken, and a delicioso strawberry cinnamon cake.

A few of us went to the SCORE store and bought some sun/moon stone rings, IYKYK. We then loaded the bus up and headed back to the hotel to get ready for karaoke night.

We look forward to our last two days in the Dominican. It has been great ministering and sharing our faith to the natives of this country. The Lord still continues to work here and it has been our pleasure getting to see what He has done and what He will continue to do.

And that's all she wrote,
