Noble Sets Lee Program Record In Mile Run At UAB Vulcan Invite

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Christian Noble set a Lee University record and joined two other members of the Lee men's track & field team in meeting NCAA Division II Qualifying Standards at the UAB Vulcan Invite Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

Noble made his presence known in the mile run where he won by almost 16 seconds. His time of 4:00.26 not only met the qualifying mark of 4:10.99, but also improved his Lee record from 4:00.60. His mile time is the top mark in DII so far this season.

Wynand Du Toit and Carson Bix were the other two Flames to meet qualifying marks. Du Toit finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.49 seconds to get in just under the 48.52 standard.

Bix crossed the finish line of the 5000-meter run at 13:56.73 to easily meet the event standard of 14:29.97. Ezekiel Harless placed second in the 5000 with a time of 15:19.59.

Jacob Hatcher joined Noble in the mile run and gave Lee two runners in the top three with a time of 4:25.18.

Five Flames claimed the top six spots of the 3000-meter run. Will Stone was the first to cross the finish line at 8:21.93. Hayden Judge was second (8:27.59) with Caleb Eagleson (8:28.98) and Caleb Guthery (8:29.39) right behind in third and fourth, respectively. Silas Eckenroad completed the circuit in 8:44.76 to claim sixth place.

Daniel Surman finished fourth in the pole vault with a successful clearance of 4.45 meters. Eli Brooks was sixth with a vault of 4.15 meters.

Camden Williams and Matthew Black were Lee's representatives in the shot put and weight throw. Williams was eighth with a mark of 12.54 meters in the shot, while Black was 12th with a measurement of 11.68 meters. In the weight throw, Black was second with a throw of 17.16 meters and Williams' toss of 15.36 meters put him in fourth.

The Flames are scheduled to return to action this coming weekend with the majority of athletes returning to the Birmingham CrossPlex for the Samford University meet and the rest heading to Boston, Massachusetts for the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
