Flames Post Seven Event Wins And Four Lee Records At Lee Invitational

The Lee University men's track & field team opened its outdoor season on Saturday in the 2022 Lee University Invitational at the Ray Conn Sports Complex. The Flames recorded seven event wins and posted four Lee Record in the meet.

Ian Thomas posted a first-place finish in the 100-Meter Dash. His time of 10.53 seconds was 0.18 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Thomas added a fifth-place finish (21.63) in the 200-Meter Dash. Silusapho Dingiswayo was just in front of him in fourth (21.38).

Christian Noble led five Flames into the top eight of the 800-Meter Run. Noble was first with a time of 1:50.72 with Titus Lagat (1:53.01) and Aaron Himes (1:57.60) in second and third, respectively. Jacob Hatcher's time of 2:00.04 put him in seventh, while Caleb Guthery (2:00.47) was eighth.

Will Stone crossed the finish line of the 1500-Meter Run at 3:51.84 to post another event win. Himes was third (3:54.45). Lagat (3:55.93) finished fifth, Caleb Eagleson was sixth (3:57.49) and Casey Guthery (3:57.79) placed eighth. Hatcher recorded the 14th-fastest time (4:04.62), Caleb Guthery was 17th (4:09.12) and Thomas Kelton grabbed 18th (4:09.69).

Jeremiah McCain added another event win in the 400-Meter Dash. He completed the race in 46.91 seconds. Wynand Du Toit joined him in the event and placed third (47.74).

The 4x100-Meter Relay team of Thomas, Stacen Cunningham, Dingiswayo and McCain set a Lee record with a first-place mark of 40.69 seconds. Lagat, McCain, Du Toit and Nokia Masengu combined to win the 4x400-Meter Relay with a collective time of 3:14.89.

Cunningham added a second-place finish in the 110-Meter Hurdles. He posted a time of 14.93 seconds to finish 0.21 seconds behind the event winner.

Four Lee runners completed the 5000-Meter Run. Adan Rodriguez was Lee's top finisher at No. 5 with a time of 14:40.88. Casey Guthery was sixth (14:41.58), Ezekiel Harless finished eighth (14:43.28) and Evan Moore placed 17th (15:23.87).

Nkosi was Lee's top finisher in the High Jump. He cleared 1.90 meters to place fifth. Caleb Long tied for sixth with a height of 1.85 meters and Cunningham finished eighth with a height of 1.80 meters. Nkosi was second in the Triple Jump with a mark of 13.92 meters.

Long recorded another event win with a Lee record mark of 58.13 meters in the Javelin Throw. Samuel Duarte was fourth with a throw of 54.44 meters and Eli Brooks stuck the javelin at 50.77 meters for sixth.

Daniel Surman, Brooks and Randall Kramer competed in the Pole Vault. Surman went over 4.35 meters for second. Brooks was third with a clearance of 4.20 meters and Kramer was sixth with a measurement of 3.60 meters. Camden Williams recorded a 15th-place throw of 38.66 meters to round out the Lee participants in the Javelin Throw.

Williams and Matthew Black were the lone Flames to participate in the Shot Put, Discus Throw and Hammer Throw. Williams was eighth in the Shot Put with a mark of 12.13 meters. Black was 12th with a toss of 10.71 meters. Black set a Lee record and finished eighth after hurling the discus 39.22 meters. He added another Lee record after throwing the hammer 44.11 meters for fourth place. Williams' throw of 36.85 meters was good for 11th.

The Flames are scheduled to travel to Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Relays on March 25-26.
