RESULTS
The Lee University men's track & field team recorded five event wins and three Lee records on its way to a second-place finish at the 2022 Flames Invitational held at the Ray Conn Sports Complex Thursday through Saturday. The Flames amassed 110.5 points, but Alabama Huntsville accumulated 111 points to edge Lee for the win. Carson-Newman was third with 70 points.
Christian Noble led the way with two individual event wins. Noble was first in the 800-Meter Run where he finished at 1:49.95 to hold off UIndy's Ben Nagel (1:50.66). Noble set the Lee Record and was two seconds from the NCAA Division II record in the 1500-Meter Run. His time of 3:39.42 was over eight second faster than his nearest competitor.
Wynand Du Toit posted a time of 54.09 seconds to win the 400-Meter Hurdles. Jeremiah McCain placed third with a time of 55.05 seconds. The two teamed with Stacen Cunningham and Titus Lagat to finish ahead of the field of the 4x400-Meter Relay with a combined time of 3:14.85. McCain added a second-place time of 14.79 seconds in the 110-Meter Hurdles.
Caleb Long added another win in the Javelin Throw. He recorded a Lee Record mark of 60.01 meters to win by 2.55 meters. Eli Brooks was fifth with a throw of 55.52 meters and Camden Williams was 12
th with a measurement of 38.93 meters.
Williams posted the team's third new Lee Record in the Discus Throw with a second-place throw of 47.63 meters. He eclipsed the standard of 42.72 meters he had set on March 26 at the Don McGarey Invitational.
Silusapho Dingiswayo placed second (10.72) in the 100-Meter Dash and was fourth (21.64) in the 200-Meter Dash. Nokia Masengu joined Dingiswayo in the 200 and placed 31
st (22.39). Masengu added added an 18
th-place finish in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 51.51.
Lagat covered 800 meters in 1:54.69 to claim 19
th position. Jacob Hatcher was 45
th (1:57.18), Caleb Guthery finished 71
st (2:00.22) and Ezekiel Harless was 92
nd (2:07.33). Hatcher also claimed 19
th in the 1500 after crossing the finish line at 3:57.74, while Guthery's time (4:03.22) put him in 43
rd place.
Lee had seven runners complete the 5000-Meter Run. Caleb Eagleson crossed the line in seventh with a time of 14:18.76. Will Stone gave Lee two runners in the top 10 with a time of 14:24.38 (10
th). Aaron Himes finished 15
th (14:30.18). Casey Guthery finished 22
nd (14:40.66), Hayden Judge was 35
th (14:54.31), Adan Rodriguez finished at 14:56.46 (39
th) and Silas Eckenroad was 50
th (15:06.54).
Thomas Kelton led three Flames runners to the finish line of the 3000-Meter Steeplechase. He placed 14
th with a time of 9:31.49. Harless finished 21
st (9:43.03) and Evan Moore was 23
rd (9:43.61).
The 4x100-Meter Relay team of Cunningham, Dingiswayo, McCain and Ian Thomas added another second-place finish. The foursome completed the race 0.14 seconds behind Carson-Newman.
In the High Jump, Nkosi cleared 1.83 meters to tie for 11
th. Nkosi covered 6.35 meters to finish 16
th in the Long Jump. Daniel Surman tied for sixth in the Pole Vault wiWWth a height of 4.35 meters.
Williams and Matthew Black were 12
th and 13
th in the Shot Put with throws of 12.13 and 11.47 meters, respectively. Black finished 14
th in the Discus Throw with a mark of 37.49 meters. The duo also competed in the Hammer Throw. Black recorded a throw of 12.01 meters for sixth, while Williams placed 11
th with a toss of 37.17 meters.
Long finished second in the Decathlon with 6189 points. Trey McFarland of Alabama Huntsville was first with 6291 points. Within the Decathlon, Long finished seventh (12.05) in the 100, sixth (54.41) in the 400, second (5:03.93) in the 1500, fourth in the 110 hurdles, third in the High Jump, third in the Pole Vault, fourth in the Long Jump, second in the Shot Put, second in the Discus Throw and first in the Javelin Throw.
The Flames are scheduled to return to action the weekend of April 22-23 at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
