RESULTS
CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Lee University women's track & field team led from start to finish in recording the program's sixth-consecutive title at the 2023 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Ray Conn Sports Complex.
Over the three days of competition, the Lady Flames accumulated 276 points to win by 157 points. Alabama Huntsville tallied 119 points to finish second and Mississippi College was third with 91 points.
Carissa Hall was recognized as the Most Outstanding Overall Performer, Celine Ritter was the Most Outstanding Track Performer and Deborah Rubin was honored as Co-Most Outstanding Field Performer. Hall is the first athlete to earn Most Outstanding Overall Performer in back-to-back seasons.
Sydney White and Samara Brinks began the final day by adding five points to the Lee total with their performances in the javelin throw. White finished sixth with a throw of 30.25 meters and Brinks was seventh at 28.55 meters.
Brynn Depinet added a second-place finish in the pole vault. Depinet cleared 3.45 meters, while Leah Dendy of Montevallo won the event with a vault of 3.60 meters.
Rubin recorded a throw of 12.76 meters to finish second in the shot put. Symphony Buxton was sixth with a mark of 12.00 meters. White placed 12
th at 10.68 meters, Brinks finished 13
th with a throw of 10.49 meters and Nitia Howard's throw of 10.46 meters put her in 14
th.
Jydia Faucette, Eve Hine, Kristen Blevins and Hall combined for a time of 46.22 seconds to begin the day's track schedule with a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay.
Celine Ritter, Aria Hawkins and Lily Hare were the top three finishers in the 1500-meter run. Ritter crossed the line at 4:22.42 to record a new GSC Championships Record. Hawkins was second (4:24.13) and Hare finished third (4:26.40). Liza Kellerman (4:36.39) and Megan Adams (4:43.33) placed fifth and eighth, respectively, to give the Lady Flames five of the top eight finishers in the event.
Ritter and Hawkins claimed the top two spots in the 800. Ritter posted another GSC Championships Record with a time of 2:10.68. Hawkins was second at 2:11.60. Hare finished fifth (2:13.73) and Kellerman was seventh (2:16.89).
Hall and Hine were the top finishers in the 400-meter dash. Hall posted a GSC Championships Record of 54.16 seconds to claim the individual championship, while Hine stopped the clock at 55.80 for second. Kaia Martz was fifth overall with a time of 56.67.
In the 100-meter dash final, Blevins added a second-place finish with a time of 11.76 seconds. Blevins was sixth (24.72) in the 200, while Hine placed seventh with a time of 24.83 seconds. Faucette posted a time of 1:03.10 to win the 400-meter hurdles and Ashlyn Iliff (1:07.94) was fourth.
The 4x400 relay team of Hine, Blevins, Martz and Hall completed the championship effort with a GSC Championships Record of 3:48.43. The foursome won the race by almost five seconds.
