DAY ONE RECAP
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Following the second of three days of competition at the 2026 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships the Lee University Lady Flames hold a 50 point lead over their nearest opponent. Ten of the 21 events have been completed with the final 11 to be decided on Friday at the University of Montevallo Track & Field Stadium.
The Lady Flames entered Thursday with 80.5 points and added 64 points to end the day with 144.5 points. Alabama Huntsville is second with 94.5 points, Mississippi College is in third (84) and Montevallo is fourth (47).
Brooke Jones and Lily Brown began the day with the final three events of the heptathlon. Jones accumulated 4,094 points for fourth place and Brown placed fifth with 4,082 points.
The Lady Flames put three in the top eight of the triple jump. Jydia Faucette covered 11.80 meters for second place and Aubrey Anderson was third with a mark of 11.72 meters. Marisa Hennix was sixth with a distance of 11.40 meters. Brooke Jones added a 10
th-place finish with a jump of 10.88 meters.
Gracie Waite added 10 big points with a championship throw of 42.12 meters in the discus.
Liz Lannom and Brooke Jones contributed four more points to the team total in the high jump. Lannom cleared 1.50 meters for sixth place and Jones was eighth with a height of 1.50 meters.
Aria Hawkins and Maria Mitchell were the top two finishers of the 5000-meter run. Hawkins was the individual champion with a time of 17:10.84 and Mitchell was second at 17:11.20. Ava Sparks claimed fifth place with a time of 17:16.55 and Capucine Cureau was seventh (17:43.17). Sadie Wielfaert crossed the finish line at 18:24.11 for 12
th.
Lannom and Faucette also competed in the 100-meter dash prelims. Lannom stopped the clock at 12.06 seconds to qualify for the event final on Friday. Faucette posted a time of 12.62 seconds to finish 14
th and missed qualifying.
The Lee women advanced four out of the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles. Lannom had the top time at 14.09 seconds. Brown was fifth (15.12), Hennix finished sixth (15.30) and Amelia Wedemeyer was seventh (15.58).
The women begin the final day of field events with the shot put and javelin finals. On the track, there will be nine events to be contested beginning with the 4x100-meter relay. The final eight events are the 1500-meter run, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash, 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 400-meter hurdles, 200-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay.
