Cross Country Ready For South Region Championships

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In less than 24 hours the Lee University cross country teams will be competing in the 2024 NCAA Division II Cross Country South Region Championships at John Hunt Park. The Championships will be hosted by The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the Huntsville Sports Commission.

The Lady Flames enter as the winner of the last four contested South Region Championships with titles in 2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023. The regional was not held during the 2020 season due to COVID-19. The Flames have won three straight titles (2021, 2022 and 2023) and won the South Region Championship in 2016 and 2017.

The 22 men's teams will get the action started at 10 a.m. ET with the 10K race, while the 19 women's teams are scheduled to begin the 6K championship race around 11:15. Live results will be available through Xpress Timing.

The men's competition is led by Lee, who won the GSC Championship and are the top-ranked team in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) South Region Rankings. UAH is second and Florida Southern is the final predicted automatic qualifier to the NCAA National Championships. Mississippi College and University of Tampa completed the top five. Lee is No. 8 in the national rankings, while UAH is No. 14 and Florida Southern is receiving votes.

The Flames are also the highest ranked South Region team in the FloTrack Team Rankings at No. 6. UAH is 15th and Mississippi College landed at No. 31 in the latest ranking.

Twenty men's competitors are included in the FloTrack Individual Ratings. The Flames, UAH and Mississippi College each have seven runners among the 255 on the list. Florida Southern has two individuals. The top-ranked individual in UAH's Sam Wilhelm at No. 11. UAH has two more runners in the top 100. Nathan Knox is No. 73 and Noah George landed at No. 78. The Flames have six of their seven runners in the top 89. Luke Gaddis is Lee's top-rated runner at No. 44. Ryan Lovelace is rated No. 56 and Owen Pearce is No. 65. The next three Lee runners are Edimo Ninteretse (No. 72), Xian Campbell (No. 79), and Aaron Himes (No. 89). The final ranked Lee runner is Stephen Clark at No. 141.

For the women, Lee is the top-ranked team in the USTFCCCA South Region Rankings. Nova Southeastern is second and Florida Southern sits in third. Tampa was ranked fourth with UAH in fifth position. Lee and Nova Southeastern were the only two South Region teams in the national poll. Lee was 10th with NSU at No. 30. The Lady Flames were the lone South Region team in the FloTrack Team Rankings at No. 9.

Aria Hawkins is the top-rated woman in the FloTrack South Region Individual Rankings. She sits at No. 50 with Ana Patricia shortly after at No. 53. Letlhogonolo Magoro is the third-highest Lady Flame and South Region runner at No. 70. Embry-Riddle's Mackenzie Keller is 76th. Three of the next four representatives of the South Region are from Lee. Lily Hare (No. 99) gives Lee four runners in the top 100. She is followed by Megan Adams at No. 106. Ashlyn Iliff and Estelle Clemons are ranked No. 130 and No. 143, respectively.

Other ranked South Region runners are Taylor Benoit of Mississippi College at No. 128, No. 183 Olivia Hall (Tampa) and No. 193 Kara Bergeron (Tampa).
