Flames Claim Fourth Consecutive South Region Cross Country Championship

RESULTS

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Lee University men's cross country team placed four runners in the top 10 and collected 39 points to win the program's fourth consecutive NCAA Division II South Region Championship. The 10K race was held Saturday morning at John Hunt Park.

Host Alabama Huntsville and Mississippi College finished second and third, respectively, to earn the other automatic qualifiers to the NCAA Division II Championships. UAH tallied 63 points, and the Choctaws had 81 points. Just missing out with 91 points and finishing fourth was Florida Southern.

Sam Wilhelm of UAH was the individual champion with a time of 30:15.99. Christian Giller of Florida Southern was second at 30:38.31. Lee's top finisher was Ryan Lovelace who placed third overall out of 131 finishers with a time of 30:55.98.

Edimo Ninteretse crossed the finish line at 30:59.90 for fifth place. Xian Campbell was eighth (31:17.00) with Luke Gaddis (31:17.41) right behind in sixth. Owen Pearce was Lee's last scorer. He posted a time of 31:35.88 to finish 14th.

Pierre Chaveau and Aaron Himes were the final two Lee runners to complete the race. Chauveau stopped the clock at 31:47.71 to record a 17th-place finish. Himes was 31st with a mark of 32:18.21.

During the awards ceremony following the race, six of the seven Lee runners were recognized as All-South Region performers for finishing in the top 25. Those earning the honor were Lovelace, Ninteretse, Campbell, Gaddis, Pearce and Chaveau.

The Flames advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships on November 23 in Sacramento, California.
