HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The fifth-ranked Lee University men's cross country team placed fifth out of 26 teams Saturday morning at the UAH Chargers XC Invitational. The 8K race was held at John Hunt Cross Country Park.
The Flames sat their top six runners to give them an extra couple weeks of rest heading into the Gulf South Conference Championships but still garnered a top five finish with 138 points. Anderson (S.C.) was the team winner with 47 points. Charleston (W.Va.) was second (67), Alabama Huntsville was third (94) and Embry-Riddle (Fla.) claimed fourth (102).
UAH's Ahmed Ibrahim was the individual winner in a field of 285 with a time of 24:05.60. Evan Moore was Lee's top finisher at 24:50.80. He placed 16
th overall with Xian Campbell crossing the finish line in 17
th place at 24:52.60. Chris Rosa was 37
th (25:19.10). Jayden Allred and Nathan Fontan were Lee's final scorers. Allred tied for 40
th (25:23.40) and Fontan was 42
nd (25:23.4).
Stephen Clark's time of 25:34.80 put him at No. 50. Parker Campbell (25:44.00) and Conner Campbell (25:44.30) finished 57
th and 58
th, respectively. Elijah Moran was 63
rd (25:47.70), Stephen Mattis finished 75
th (25:57.60) and Ben Flanigan was 89
th (26:09.60).
CJ Jeffords, Kenneth Bishop and Luke Chapuran were the final three Lee runners across the finish line. Jeffords stopped the clock at 26:35.10 for 111
th, Bishop was 123
rd at 26:46.90 and Chapuran (27:15.00) finished 155
th.
The Flames begin the championship portion of their schedule in two weeks at the GSC Championships on October 25. The 8K race will be hosted by Christian Brothers University and will be held at Shelby Farms in Memphis, Tenn.
