PITTSBURG, Kan. – Six Lee University athletes have made the trip to compete in the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the Robert W. Plaster Center on the campus of Pittsburg State. Competition begins Friday morning and will continue through Saturday evening.
Representing the Lady Flames are McKenna Cavanaugh, Lily Hare, Carissa Hall and Letlhogonolo Magoro, while Jacob Hatcher and Cale Kassen qualified for the national event for the Lee men.
Cavanaugh will be part of the Distance Medley Relay with Hare, Hall and Magoro and was also selected as an individual in the 3000-meter Run. The DMR team enters the weekend with the seventh-best qualifying time out of the 12 relay teams. Cavanaugh holds the No. 12 seed time in the field of 19 in the 3000.
Kassen is set to take on the Heptathlon and the 60-meter Hurdles. He is the sixth seed in both events with 14 battling in the Heptathlon and 16 in the hurdles. Hatcher grabbed the final spot in the 1 Mile Run field of 16.
Kassen is scheduled to be the first Lee athlete to see action with the first event of the heptathlon to begin Friday morning at 11 a.m. EST. Kassen is in the second of two sections for the 60-meter dash. He will follow with the long jump, shot put and high jump to complete the first day of competition in the Heptathlon.
At 3:30 p.m., Kassen will run the second heat of the 60-meter Hurdles Preliminary. Hatcher will take the track at 4:30 for the preliminary round of the mile. He has been placed in the second of two heats. The women's DMR will close out Friday around 8 p.m. with the team's first shot at medaling and collecting team points.
Saturday will begin with the final three heptathlon events (60-meter Hurdles, Pole Vault and 1000-meter Run) starting at 1 p.m. The men's 60-meter Hurdles final is scheduled for 6 with the men's Mile final at 6:40.
Cavanaugh will complete the weekend of competition for Lee in the Women's 3000 at 8:25 Saturday evening.
