RESULTS
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Lee University Men's Track & Field Team sits in second place following the first day of competition at the 2024 GSC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day event is being held at the University of Montevallo Track & Field Stadium.
With three of the 21 events completed, the Flames have accumulated 32 points and trail Mississippi College by nine points. Alabama Huntsville is in third place with 30 points.
Luke Gaddis led three other Flames into the top eight of the 3000-meter Steeplechase. Gaddis finished second with a time of 9:03.77. Caleb Guthery placed third (9:21.83) and Owen Pearce was fourth (9:28.38). Tal Old grabbed an eighth-place finish (9:50.03) to add another team point.
Jon Fielding Stogner and Ezekiel Harless added six points in the 10000-meter Run. Stogner placed fourth after stopping the clock at 31:12.54 and Harless (32:13.75) finished eighth.
The Flames collected another six points in the Hammer Throw. Camden Williams recorded a throw of 48.30 meters to place third. Braxton Philpott's mark of 41.78 meters put him in 10
th place and Brody Morgan was 13
th with a measurement of 40.09 meters.
Lee advanced three of their four runners to the final of the 200-meter Dash. Justin Steele was second in the preliminary round with a time of 21.22 seconds. Doniven Jackson was sixth at 21.45 and Aiden Shaw grabbed the final spot with an eighth-place time of 21.62. Nokia Masengu missed qualifying for the final after finishing 13
th with a time of 22.05.
Cameron Stine leads the Decathlon halfway through the competition with 3,426 points. Close behind him are two athletes from Montevallo. Nate Boleware is in second (3,307) and Walter Womack is third with 3,302 points. Matthew Brunner of West Georgia is in fourth (3,244). Positions five through seven are held by Flames. Eli Brooks is fifth (3,238), Caleb Long (3,199) is in sixth and Timothy Doolittle (3,049) enters the final five events in seventh.
The last half of the Decathlon will consist of the 110-meter Hurdles, Discus Throw, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw and 1500-meter Run. Other event finals to be held on Friday are the 5000-meter Run, Long Jump, Discus Throw and High Jump.
