Sizzling Workman Promoted to Triple-A, Bulls

CLEVELAND, Tenn.-Former Lee University and Soddy-Daisy pitcher Logan Workman is being rewarded for his pitching success with the Double-A Montgomery (Ala.) Biscuits and is one step away from reaching his dream and goal of one day pitching in the big leagues.

Over the weekend it was announced that his parent club, the Tampa Bay Rays, was promoting the big right-hander to the (Hollywood movie famous) Triple-A Durham, North Carolina Bulls.

The promotion comes after outstanding months of July and August by Workman. He was named the Southern League July Pitcher of the Month after posting a 3-1 mark and 1.67 earned run average. At that point, his overall pitching mark with Montgomery was 8-5.

The month of August was just as good or maybe even better. In his last outing with the Biscuits, before the promotion, Workman turned in a dazzling five-inning performance. In his five-inning shutout against the Rocket City Pandas, he struck out a season-high of 10 batters with seven punchouts against the last 10 hitters he faced.

Workman upped his season record to 10-5 and holds an impressive 2.71 ERA. He became the first Southern League pitcher to reach 10 wins. On Sunday, a day after their top right-hander departed for Durham, the Biscuits claimed the Southern League South title.

The Bulls are a member of the International League and Workman could see his first action this week. The Bulls are returning from a road trip in Syracuse, N.Y. and will host Buffalo in a six-game series.
