Trevecca Continues Winning Ways, Turns Back Lee in 4 Sets

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Trevecca Nazarene University displayed why it has won seven of its last eight games and five straight when the Trojans handed Lee a 3-1 (25-14, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17) defeat on Tuesday evening inside the Trojan Fieldhouse. The victory improved Trevecca's record to 10-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in GSC play while the Lady Flames dropped to 5-8, 1-3.

Tuesday's contest ended a rugged three-game road trip for Coach Christa Fabre and her Lady Flames. They will return to Walker Arena on Friday and will host Mississippi College in a GSC contest slated for a 6 p.m. first tip. On Saturday at 2 p.m., Lee will be right back in action and will be entertaining the University of West Alabama.

The Trojans wasted no time in claiming the first set but the Lady Flames showed plenty of character in battling back after trailing 13-10 in set two. They went on top 19-16 and forced a timeout by the Trojans. Trevecca came right back and cut the lead to 21-17 and Coach Fabre called a TO before her Lady Flames went on to win the set 25-23.

The third set was a battle in which Trevecca finally gained control and went onto the 25-20 decision and set the tone for the fourth set. The Trojans jumped on top and never let up in the fourth stanza and added another victory to their winning streak.

Sara Palumbo produced a double-double in the loss. She had 12 kills and 10 digs. However, it was the play of Sophia Lippert that turned out to be her best of the year. Coming back from major knee surgery, the sophomore had 10 kills and a hitting mark of .318. Jordyn Butler added nine kills as the Lady Flames totaled 42 as a team while the Trojans racked up 56.

Madison Dahl delivered 19 assists and Berra Soyler delivered 17 and also served up a pair of aces. Izzy Denton had 19 digs. Hitting wise, Lee totaled .198 while Trevecca garnered a solid .350.

Three different Trojan players proved hard to handle at the net. Mackenzie Martin had 16 kills. Katilyn Grant had 13 kills and an impressive .524 attack percentage. Teammate Addison Cunnagin had 14 slams while Skias Hainline set her teammates up with 42 assists. She also had 13 digs and Lily Vanbebber finished with 12 digs.

Coach Christa Fabre's thoughts:
"Trevecca is a solid and fluid team. We struggled to get in rhythm at the start and made too many errors. Trevecca came out so strong in the fourth set having 19 kills that we had no answers for.
"Our team is growing and learning and we will work to be ready for the home series this weekend."
