HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The 13
th-ranked Lee University women's cross country team began its 2025 season with an 11
th place finish at the Southern Showcase. The 5K race was hosted by Jacksonville State University at John Hunt Park.
In a race filled with NCAA DI competition, the Lady Flames collected 378 points to be the top finishing non-DI team. GSC foe Mississippi College placed 17
th with 488 points and Southern Indiana was 25
th with 599 points.
Louisville was the overall team winner with 64 points. Mississippi State was second (90) and Kentucky claimed third (170).
Caren Kiplagat of Alabama was the top individual with a time of 16:18.76. Kentucky's Janet Jepkemboi Amimo was second (16:30.35) and MTSU's Faith Nyathi (16:35.12) finished third.
The Lady Flames' first finisher was Maria Mitchell at 24
th. The transfer from Grand Valley State stopped the clock at 17:16.68. Freshman Capucine Cureau was 78
th overall at 17:56.64 with Estella Clemons right behind at No. 80 (17:58.09).
Lyndi Chapman and Ava Sparks completed the Lee scoring. Chapman's time of 18:07.18 put her at 94
th and Sparks finished 120
th (18:22.03). Katie Beam placed 145
th with a time of 18:31.01 and Sadie Wielfaert the seventh Lee runner across the finish line at 18:51.60 (190
th).
Sawyer Simmons completed the circuit at 19:20.77 for 242
nd. Abi Moore was 301
st (19:53.10) and Lucy Guthrie was 333
rd (20:18.46).
The Lady Flames return to competition on September 27 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, at the Lucian Rosa Cross Country Invitational. The meet will be held on the same course as the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
