Women's Basketball To Face Trevecca in GSC Tournament After Falling to Union

Box Score JACKSON, Tenn. – Taking advantage of 23 costly Lee University floor mistakes, Union University turned around and marched to the free-throw line 20 more times than the Lady Flames in posting a 59-47 victory on Friday evening inside the Fred Delay Gymnasium.

The defeat means Lee will hit the road in the opening round of the GSC playoffs. The loss dropped the Lady Flames to 14-8 in GSC play and 18-9 overall. It also pushed Coach Marty Rowe's club into fifth place in the final GSC standings. Lee will travel to Nashville and will face fourth seeded Trevecca Nazarene on Monday night at 7 p.m. (EST).

With the win, Union improved to 16-6 in conference action and 21-9 overall. The Lady Bulldogs moved up to the No. 2 spots in the upcoming playoffs and will host No. 7 West Florida on Monday.

Lee actually shot better overall, 18-of-49 (37%) and made 5-of-24 triples (21%). However, they were awarded only eight free throws and canned six. Union shot 15-of-51 (29%) from the field and actually moved ahead by making key 3-pointers in the third quarter but still managed just 9-of-31 (29%). The Lady Bulldogs marched to the stripe 28 times and converted 20 (72%).

The Lady Flames moved on top after one quarter, 10-7 and trailed 20-19 in the low-scoring affair at halftime. Union outscored the visitors 36-30 in the third frame and 23-17 in the final period to put the contest away.
Baylee Delbridge had 12 points and four boards in pacing the Lee scoring. Anna Muhonen followed with 11 points and led her team in rebounding with eight. Libby Privett finished with eight points and Mia Alexander tallied seven.

On the other end, Olivia Lee was the leader for the Lady Bulldogs. She tallied 22 points and seven of those came on 7-of-10 shooting from the free-throw line. Katie Yoder had nine points and four freebies while Aryn Roberts was a perfect 4-of-4 in free-throw attempts and added six late points.

Coach Marty Rowe's thoughts:
"We competed hard tonight, especially on the defensive end, but ultimately, we made too many mistakes on both ends. We had a great regular season. This league is balanced and extremely tough. But now none of that matters in the postseason. We will have a tough test in front of us at Trevecca but our team will look forward to that challenge."
