BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Lee University's Dustin DeMersseman has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman Golfer of the Month the league office announced on Thursday.
DeMersseman, a native of Athens, Ga., has made an immediate impact for Lee head coach John Maupin this season. The tall, powerful hitter finished T28 (72, 72, 74) at the Southeastern Intercollegiate, 8th (69, 71, 72) and helped lead the Flames to the team win at the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate and T8 (70, 74, 73) at the Argonaut Invitational.
"Dustin has stepped up for our team this Spring, and played some very good golf. I'm happy that he received this well-deserved recognition. It's a product of his great work ethic, and he's just getting started."
DeMersseman will look to keep his solid play going as the Flames will enter postseason play beginning Sunday at the GSC Championship in Mobile, Ala. The 54-hole Tournament is being staged at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Magnolia Grove.
