Lady Flames Host Loyola University in SSAC Crossover

First Meeting Since 2010-11 Season

Karley Miller and Julia Zimmerman battle under the basket.

Fresh off the hard-fought victory over Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday evening, the Lady Flames (5-1) return to Walker Arena this afternoon and host Loyola University (New Orleans). The Wolf Pack stands at 3-3 overall and are 1-1 against SSAC competition.

SCOUTING REPORT:

Overall, Lee stands at 2-2 against the Wolf Pack. The two squads did not meet last season, but Lee coach Marty Rowe considers Loyola coach Kellie Kennedy one of the top coaches in the league. She is in her fifth season at Loyola and the former University of North Carolina player has claimed three 20-win seasons in her four years at the New Orleans school. Last season the Wolf Pack finished 23-6 and 14-4 in the SSAC.

Loyola is paced by one of the premier players in the conference. Jasmine Brewer shoots 70 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line. She also pulls down 11 rebounds per outing and is averaging 18.5 ppg. Two of her teammates, Megan Berner (14.8) and Janeicia Neely (12.7), are also double-figure threats.

The Lady Flames will try to build off a 28 point performance by sophomore Jenna Adams on Tuesday. The former McMinn Central standout was 10-of-12 overall from the field and 5-of-7 from behind the arc. For the year, the 6-foot post player is shooting 47 percent from the field and making 39 percent of her treys.

"We've been waiting for someone to step up and help Hollie German on the offensive end," said coach Marty Rowe. "Jenna is certainly capable of playing that role and of being one of the better players in the conference."

Lee also got a sparkling effort from several other players in the rugged win at Trevecca. Julia Zimmerman stepped up with a pair of key defensive plays and a possible game-winning assist. "It is time for some of our experienced players to step up as we enter the meat of our conference schedule," pointed out Rowe.

As of Friday, three teams remain unbeaten in the SSAC. Southern Poly is off to a 5-0 mark overall and 2-0 in the conference. Faulkner stands at 8-0, while Auburn-Montgomery, a winner over Lee two weeks ago, is at 7-0.

The Lady Flames will host Spring Hill on Saturday at 3 p.m., while Loyola will travel to Marietta and test Southern Poly as SSAC cross-over play continues.
