Lady Flames Hold on to Defeat Loyola

German Goes Over 1,000 Points in Lee Career

Julia Zimmerman hit three big three-point shots for the Lady Flames.
Hollie German recorded a game-high 31 points and went over the 1,000-point mark in her Lee career to lead the Lady Flames to a 73-66 victory over SSAC West Division foe Loyola University New Orleans.

The Lady Flames (6-1. 1-1 SSAC) continue the crossover weekend on Saturday with a matchup against Spring Hill (Ala.) College. The Lady Badgers were soundly defeated by host Southern Polytechnic State University, 78-57, Friday evening.

German entered the game needing 11 points to reach the milestone and pulled to within one after a 10-point first half. The junior etched her name onto the 1000-Point Club with a three-pointer one minute into the second half.

“I’m proud of Hollie for going over 1000 points tonight,” said Lee assistant coach Jan Spangler. “It is special to see someone who is so unselfish and works so hard pass that mark.”

The Lady Flames built upon a 32-21 halftime lead and held an 18-point edge with 16 minutes remaining in the contest. The Wolf Pack chipped away at the lead, but could only pull within seven, the final margin.

“We have to find a way to stretch our lead throughout the course of the game,” added Spangler. “Tonight we were able to hang on but we have to take care of the basketball and eliminate these stretches where we allow teams to hang around when we have a chance to put the game away.”

Jenna Adams joined German in double-digit scoring with 14. Adams made it a double-double with 14 rebounds.

Julia Zimmerman hit three big three-point shots to finish with nine points. Karley Miller added seven points and four rebounds to the total, while Brooke Hamby tallied six points and four assists.

Loyola (3-4, 1-2 SSAC) was led by Jasmine Brewer’s 21 point performance. Brewer added eight boards and a steal in the loss.

Megen Berner and Janeicia Neely each poured in 12 points for Loyola. Berner also had nine rebounds and Neely dished out six assists.
