OWENSBORO, Ky.-  The Lee University women's basketball team had little trouble Thursday evening as they dominated from start to finish, defeating Brescia University 106-58.

The Lady Flames will enter the Christmas break with a record of 11-1 after sweeping a two-game road trip in Kentucky. Lee was victorious in Pikeville on Tuesday evening. The trip to Owensboro was a homecoming for Coach Marty Rowe who began his coaching career at Brescia and had several former players and family in attendance.

Leading the way for Lee was Julia Zimmeran who went 4-of-4 from 3-point distance and finished with 14 points. Hollie German added 17 markers and Jenna Adams registered 20 points and 7 rebounds. Karley Miller made it four Lady Flames in double- figures as she ended the night with 13 points.

"Jules (Julia Zimmeran) shot the ball well tonight and we need her to. She is our outside shooter and people need to fear that which will open up the floor for Holly (German) to slash to the basket. She's shooting the ball and we want to keep her rolling." said Rowe.

Rowe's club tallied 30 assists and committed just nine turnovers in route to the 48-point victory. The Bearcats were guilty of 25 floor mistakes.

The Lady Flames shot the ball well the entire night going 24-of-37  from the field (64 percent) while shooting a sizzling 61 percent from 3-point range (9-of-13). 

The Bearcats shot 45 percent from the field in the contest. Leading the way for the Kentucky club was Julie Whitfill who had 21 first-half points and finished with 28 in the game. Whitfill finished 5-of-8 from behind-the-arc and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

"Brescia averages 80 a game so we did a good job defensively holding them under 60" noted Rowe. "I thought we were soft at the start of the first half and fouled too much, letting them shoot 55 percent. They tired some in the second half and we were able to limit them to just 33 percent shooting"

Rowe embraced the opportunity to go deep into the bench on this road trip,  "This week was good for Caroline Smith to get some action in the middle of the game. Getting our freshman mixed in was very important. The development of Caroline (Smith), Mel (Melanie Barker),  KB (Kayla Beavers) and Christina (Johnson) is crucial for our program moving forward."

Lee will take some time off for the Christmas break. The Lady Flames will be back in action on Jan. 4 when they will travel to Jackson, Miss. to square off with SSAC rival Belhaven.
