Flames Complete SSAC Weekend Sweep Of Emmanuel

Score 14 Runs Off 19 Hits in Twinbill

Lee University’s offense came to life late in game one and continued into the finale as the baseball Flames (23-6, 12-3 SSAC) finished a weekend sweep of visiting Emmanuel College by the scores of 5-0 and 9-3.

“It was a great weekend on the mound with only three earned runs allowed,” said Lee head coach Mark Brew. “Both (Jose) Samayoa and (Clint) Terry did a great job today. Our defense was solid all day today with no errors in 16 innings. Brandon Rader had a great day both offensively and defensively.”

Rader finished the day 3-for-6 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Danny Canela recorded three hits, including two doubles, and an RBI. Josh Silver was 3-for-7 with two doubles on the day.

The Flames will take a day off from SSAC competition when they host Bryan College Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.

FLAMES 9, EMMANUEL 3

Jordan Stewart and Corey Davis blasted home runs in the nightcap as Lee tallied nine runs on 10 hits.

Davis gave Lee an early 2-0 lead after launching a 3-2 offering over the left field wall for his third round-tripper of the season. Karsten Strieby scored on the play.

Strieby added to the lead with a sacrifice fly in the five-run fourth inning. Derrick Pitts triple in two runs and came home on Stewart’s two-run home run.

The Flames added another run in the fourth inning and Canela legged out an RBI double to score Rader in the sixth inning.

Michael Crowe put Emmanuel on the board with a solo shot in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh inning. Michael Granda delivered an RBI single in the eighth to put a cap on the game’s scoring.

Clint Terry (3-1) worked six innings to pick up the win. The left-hander gave up one earned run, four hits and fanned four.

FLAMES 5, EMMANUEL 0

In the opener, Lee was held to five hits through the first five innings before Canela led off the five-run sixth inning with a double. Karsten Strieby reached on an error and Derrick Pitts hit a sacrifice fly to plate Trevor Burgess, who was running for Canela.

Chris Avey, Mark Silva and Brady Renner each doubled in the inning. Silva drove in two runs, while Avey and Renner tallied one RBI each.

Jose Samayoa (5-1) scattered three hits over six scoreless innings to earn the pitching win. Samayoa struck out eight Lions.

Andy Hillis walked two and sat down two on strikes in one inning of relief.
