NEW ORLEANS, La. - Coach Mark Brew has been asking his Lee club for consistent hitting from the top to the bottom of his lineup, and that is exactly what the Brew Crew provided in the final game of a SSAC three-game series on Saturday afternoon against the University of Loyola.
Every Flame in the starting lineup collected at least one hit, plus Mike Fasolo came off the bench to rip a double. The end results was 15 singles, a home run and a double as Lee improved to 30-7 overall and more importantly continued to hold a share of the conference lead after the 10-0 victory.
"Overall, it was a great weekend," said Brew. "Any sweep on the road in this conference is big. Offensively, the last two weekends have been the best we have looked all year and we are hoping that will spring forward into the huge mid-week game we have with Cumberland."
Six Flames had multiple-hit games. Lead-off man Brady Renner set the table with three hit and one run batted in. Catcher Joran Stewart paced the two-hit attack. He had a homer, collected two RBI and scored twice.
Josh Silver continued his hot streak at the dish with two hits, a run, and a RBI. Corey Davis, who also enjoyed his best series to dates, stroked a pair of hits, scored twice and knocked in another score. Brandon Rader and Mark Silva joined the two-hit parade. Rader had two RBI, while Silva produced a run and a run batted in.
Derrick Pitts, Karsten Strieby and Danny Canela chipped in with one hit each. Pitts had an RBI, Strieby and Canela added to the 10-run total as the Flames tallied two runs in the first, four in the third, two in the fifth and single runs in the sixth and eighth to run-rule the Wolf Pack for the second-straight game.
Lefty Clint Terry hurled five inning of six hit ball and improved his record to 5-1. Terry recorded seven strike outs and did not walk a Loyola hitter. Mike Guinane, Jeremy Bales and Ryan Zimmer followed with a scoreless inning of work.
"Once again we pitched extremely well all weekend only allowing one earned run. Clint Terry was solid and the bullpen was once again very good," added Brew. "I have also been pleased that we have played well defensively over the past two weeks."
The Flames will return to non-conference play on Tuesday and will face a longtime NAIA baseball power in Cumberland University. It is will Mayfield Ice Cream day (free ice cream) at Olympic Field. The nine-inning single game is slated for a 6 p.m. start.
