Lady Flames Take Down TWC, 7-2

Face No. 1 Brenau University Wednesday Afternoon

Tarah Garner claimed victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles to help lead Lee over Tennessee Wesleyan.

The Lee University women’s tennis team posted its second consecutive win with a 7-2 defeat of visiting Tennessee Wesleyan College Tuesday afternoon at the DeVos Tennis Center.

Lee (4-4) swept the doubles portion to take an early 3-0 lead. Tonya Walters and Tarah Garner were 8-4 winners over Ekaterina Vezhenkova and Beatriz Signori.

Maclain Yowarski and Christy North won their No. 2 doubles match by the same score against Tatum McMahon and Jayden Morrison. Jodie Rice and Kelsey Lovingood did one point better by taking down Kristen Camp and Bridget Malone, 8-3.

Rice and North won their singles matches in straight-sets by matching scores of 6-0 and 6-1 against Malone and Camp, respectively.

Garner won her first set 6-2 and lost the second set by the same score before holding off Signori, 6-4, to claim the three-set victory.

Katie North closed out the Lee team scoring with an 8-3 super set win over Morrison.

TWC (6-9) earned team points at No. 1 and No. 4 singles. Vezhenkova edged Walters 6-4 in the opening set and ran away with the second set, 6-1. McMahon won both sets over Yowarski, 6-3.

The 20th-ranked Lady Flames will return to action Wednesday afternoon against No. 1 Brenau University. The SSAC match is slated for 2 p.m. start.
